Why dieting can be an unatural process for your body

On Monday I will start the diet, go to the gym, start eating healthy, stop eating chocolate. Sound familiar? You may be one of the millions of women and men who struggle with diets and weight loss.

There are so many different types of diets around today, some focus on losing weight slowly and healthy and others are more "get skinny quick at any expense".

Dieting can actually be an unnatural process for the body. Cutting out too many food groups (such as carbs), or eating not enough calories and feeling hungry can lead to a huge will power melt down, so you may find yourself grabbing a takeaway or reaching a bar of chocolate before you even realise.

Evolution has designed us in a way that when we are hungry our body and mind craves and searches for food. So for the many millions of women and men the yo-yo dieting and cycle of losing weight continues.

The word “diet” can also have certain connotations for some people. “I will fail”, “It will be too hard”, “I do not have enough will power”, “I tried too many times before” “I just can’t do this”.

So, before you even go on a diet chances are you mind set has led you to fail. This can lead to lose of confidence, motivation and self-esteem.

Rather than focus on dieting, start to focus on eating in a healthy and balanced way.

I will next be discussing emotional eating, so come back soon!
